Will my car undergo scrapping post-collection?

+

The majority of vehicles collected through our service undergo scrapping and disposal, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the EU End of Life Vehicles Directive. Nevertheless, if a car exhibits potential for repair and can be restored to roadworthy condition, it may be evaluated for reuse. The recycling centre makes the final decision on whether to scrap or reuse the vehicle following its return to their facility and a thorough inspection.

If scrapping is a necessity, especially when participating in a scrappage scheme like the TfL Scrappage Scheme, kindly notify the recycling centre either before scheduling the collection or when delivering the vehicle.

Why aren’t all cars automatically destined for scrapping?

+

Although many vehicles undergo scrapping, there are situations in which the recycling company (Authorized Treatment Facility) assesses a car as suitable for reuse instead of scrapping, thereby minimising environmental impact. This decision is reached by the recycling company after acquiring and inspecting the vehicle. Customers are urged to fulfil their legal obligation by informing DVLA of the ownership transfer on the day the car is handed over to the recycling centre.

Do I need to contact DVLA when I sell or scrap my car?

+

Yes, it is your legal obligation to inform DVLA of the change in ownership. This can be done online through the DVLA website or by completing the yellow tear-off slip on the V5C document. If the V5C is unavailable, send a letter to DVLA promptly, notifying them of the ownership transfer to the recycling centre. The ownership is transferred to the recycling centre, and it is their business details that should be provided to DVLA.

Does my car need to be free from damage?

+

No, we buy damaged cars. However, we may ask for information about the extent of any damage, categorised as major damage or wear and tear. After receiving your quote, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss and provide further details.

Will I receive a Certificate of Destruction when my car is scrapped?

+

When a vehicle is scrapped, the recycling company automatically generates a Certificate of Destruction, submitted to DVLA to confirm the scrapping. If you wish to obtain a copy of this certificate, the recycling centre can provide one upon request. Ensure you communicate this preference when booking the collection or dropping off the vehicle.

Do you buy cars with outstanding finance?

+

No, we do not accept cars with outstanding finance. Settlement is required before accepting the quote.

Is Recycle My Car Ltd approved by the Environment Agency?

+
